In a daring daylight robbery that shocked shoppers at Plaza Metro Kajang, four masked men dressed in what resembled security guards' uniforms stormed a goldsmith's shop armed with a rifle and two pistols. The incident, which occurred at 3:17 pm, unfolded with the assailants smashing glass showcases using sledgehammers, creating panic among bystanders.

Deputy police chief Nasir Drahman of Kajang detailed the harrowing events, stating that during the robbery, one of the assailants discharged a shot into the wall with the rifle, further escalating tensions. The robbers swiftly collected valuables from the shattered showcases and made their escape through the mall's basement car park. The total value of the stolen items is yet to be determined as investigations continue.

Law enforcement authorities are actively reviewing CCTV footage from the mall and interviewing witnesses to gather more information about the perpetrators and their escape routes. The presence of customers and staff inside the shop at the time of the robbery remains unclear, underscoring the brazenness of the attack and its potential risks to public safety.

A circulating video clip captured during the incident depicts two of the masked men forcefully breaking into the showcases while another vigilantly stands guard with the firearms. This footage has sparked widespread concern and prompted local authorities to intensify efforts to apprehend the suspects and prevent future occurrences.

Nasir emphasized the seriousness of the crime, highlighting that the case falls under Section 3 of the Firearms Act 1971, a legal classification that could carry severe penalties, including the death penalty. He urged anyone with pertinent information to come forward and assist in the investigation, underscoring the community's role in combatting such criminal activities.

The robbery at Plaza Metro Kajang serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges in ensuring public safety and security, particularly within commercial areas. It also raises questions about the adequacy of existing security measures and protocols to deter and respond to such audacious criminal acts.

As authorities continue their efforts to piece together the sequence of events and identify the perpetrators, residents and businesses in Kajang are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly. The incident underscores the need for collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and the public to maintain vigilance and uphold safety standards in public spaces.
