Brighton are of the view that manager Roberto De Zerbi acted as peacemaker against Tottenham.
The Albion were furious when a late penalty shout was turned down by the referee, despite a VAR review.
With Brighton eventually receiving a PGMOL apology for the poor decision, the club are standing by De Zerbi after he was shown a red card late in the game.
Albion chief executive and deputy chairman Paul Barber told The Argus: The laws of the game state that if the match officials were unable to determine the cause of a situation like that, then it's the two head coaches that carry the responsibility and usually it's a red card because the idea is that it just brings an immediate end to the situation and calms things down.
We feel, of the footage we've seen and that we've studied very closely, Roberto actually acted throughout as a peacemaker.
He was pushing our staff back towards our technical area and our bench, he didn't in any way put the match officials under any pressure, didn't speak to them about anything.
He tried to just stay as calm as possible.
We certainly feel that Roberto conducted himself as you would hope the head coach would in that situation.
But obviously, now it's a matter for the FA to decide whether there's a charge against him or against the club."
Barber added: It's hard to see everything, even when you're reviewing footage angles because there are different angles.
But certainly I didn't see anything that our club or our staff need to be ashamed of.
Obviously, we're not happy with scenes like that.
We know they're not good for the game and they're not good for kids to see.
We know that and the staff know that and they are disappointed that it happened.
But sometimes passion, tempers in the heat of the moment spill over.
We've got to do our best to remain calm in those situations and avoid them."
