The BSF arrested a man with heroin and illegal weapons here on Wednesday. The accused was later handed over to the Sarai Amanat Khan police for further investigation. Sub-Inspector Dilbagh Singh, posted at the Sarai Amanat Khan police station, said the accused had been identified as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Nesta village under the Gharinda police station in Amritsar district. He said the accused was moving suspiciously on a motorcycle in the border village of Burj 169 when BSF jawans intercepted him.
During a search, the BSF recovered 447 grams of heroin, a foreign-made pistol and two magazines from his possession. The police also seized the accused’s motorcycle and mobile phone. Preliminary investigations suggest that the heroin and weapons were smuggled from across the border using drones. A case has been registered under Sections 21-C, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act, Sections 10, 11 and 12 of the Aircraft Act and Sections 25 (6, 7, 8), 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.
The accused was produced before a court on Thursday, which sent him to two-day police custody.
