Budget 2027 will make telematics systems mandatory for commercial vehicles to monitor speed and risky driving, with alcohol detection and health screening measures.
PETALING JAYA: Commercial vehicles will be required to install telematics systems to monitor speed, location and risky driving behaviour, as the government steps up efforts to improve road safety.
Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the systems would also be linked to alcohol detection devices to ensure drivers were screened before beginning their journeys.
Voluntary implementation will continue until 2027, while the government develops a driver database to strengthen enforcement.
Meanwhile, the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) will provide health screening vouchers for commercial vehicle drivers to detect medical risks that could affect their ability to drive safely.
