The Mubeen at Plaza Damansara is a popular cafe and restaurant.

It's a small single shoplot mamak restaurant that serves everything you have always wanted from any outlet of its kind.

In the morning it serves roti canai, thosai, nasi lemak and fried noodles.

Nasi lemak is available wrapped in banana leaf but prepared elsewhere. The same goes for Malay kueh which ranges from cucok kodok, seri muka to a variety of curry puff or karipap depending on whether you want to call it English or in Malay.

Either way it's just a mixture of curried potatoes cooked with green peas wrapped with pastry and deep fried in oil at high temperatures.

They are not the most healthy  food for breakfast but they do fill the stomachs of many who dropped by on the way to work daily. They even serve fresh bananas these days at RM1 per piece for customers who want  fruits for breakfast.

Anyway, it's a convenient place for residents or workers in the area to have breakfast at reasonable prices.

Every morning a group of mosque goers at Bukit Damansara, would make a beeline for Mubeen after subuh prayers for coffee or teh tarik with the mandatory roti canai or thosai.

They'll spend about an hour discussing current issues. After roti canai and teh tarik they would have a group photo with the help of the friendly proprietor Raheem Hameed from Kerala who had been in Malaysia for over 20 years.

I have often joked with Raheem that he too could be great someday like one particular leader whose ancestors came from Kerala. He shook his head "No, no cannot, I have a Red IC!"

Meanwhile, the group discussions held at the restaurant by the mosque goers are documented on WhatsApp chat group known as "Mubeen Discourse". To access the info you would need to join the chat group.

Anyway, this discourse is not just empty coffee shop talk. In fact some of the ideas presented have been acted upon and brought results to the satisfaction of everyone in the group.

One morning while this group of Tan Sri and Datuk or Dato', (the spelling differs depending from whom they received the award), was enjoying their breakfast Faridah Merican and her husband Joe Hasham walked into Mubeen.

Apparently, they just flew in from Melbourne, drove straight to Mubeen from KLIA. They said that they just have to satisfy their cravings for roti canai and dhal not easily available in Australia.

Joe bought everyone breakfast had a few laughs with us in the group and went home with Faridah having done a good deed for the morning and satisfied his cravings for roti canai.

But before they left Tan Sri Aziz a senior member of the Mubeen Discourse insisted on a group photo shared on this page with his kind permission.

Go visit Mubeen at Jalan Setia 1 Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur.

You'll never know whom you'll run into next at Mubeen in the early morning hours.
