Businesswoman remanded seven days over alleged RM30k bribe

A BUSINESSWOMAN in her 60s has been remanded for seven days over allegations that she solicited and received about RM30,000 in bribes to help two arms and defence-related companies secure grants and financing under a Bumiputera entrepreneur funding scheme.

The remand order, which runs from September 4 to 10, 2026, was issued by Magistrate Aliaa Anwar at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrates’ Court yesterday following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The suspect, who owns a consultancy, management and business services company, is believed to have received the money in return for helping the companies obtain the grants and financing.

MACC said the woman was arrested at about 6.45pm on September 3 in Kuala Lumpur.

Initial investigations found that the alleged offence took place in March 2025.

“The suspect is believed to have solicited and received about RM30,000 in bribes from the owner of a company involved in arms and defence,” MACC said in a statement.

MACC Kuala Lumpur director Mohamad Zakkuan Talib, when contacted, confirmed the arrest.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009. - September 5, 2026
