PAPAR: A 48-year-old bystander was killed after an out-of-control Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) crashed into a nearby hut along Km M20, Jalan Pan Borneo, here, on Wednesday.

District Police Chief DSP Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka said in the 3.30pm incident, the victim who was initially riding a motorcycle had to make a pit stop by the roadside under a hut following a heavy downpour.

“Suddenly an SUV driven by a 42-year-old man heading towards Beaufort from Kota Kinabalu skidded out of control before crashing to the left side of the road.

“The vehicle then crashed into the hut located near a shop where the deceased was waiting,” he said.

Read more The victim succumbed to serious injuries to his body and legs and was pronounced dead by a Papar Hospital Assistant Medical Officer at the scene, while the driver escaped unscathed.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
