Kota Kinabalu: Members of the public are urging immediate repairs to the damaged internal roads of the Sabah Women’s and Children’s Hospital, citing serious safety risks posed by numerous potholes.

The deteriorating condition of the hospital’s road network has made it difficult for visitors to manoeuvre their vehicles safely within the compound.

“The road condition is terrible — there are potholes everywhere, making it really hard to drive through,” said one concerned visitor. “Someone needs to take responsibility and fix this before someone gets hurt.”The situation has worsened due to the ongoing rainy season, with water-filled potholes becoming nearly invisible to drivers. This poses a risk of vehicle damage, especially to tyres and rims.

In one reported incident, a man driving his seven-months-pregnant wife to the hospital hit a deep pothole, causing a jarring impact. The couple described it as a frightening experience, particularly given the stress of seeking urgent medical care.

Hospital users are calling on the relevant authorities in charge of compound maintenance to take urgent action. They say the poor road conditions are adding unnecessary stress for families already coping with medical issues.
