TWO Caloocan lawmakers — 1st District Rep. Oscar Malapitan and 3rd District Rep. Dean Asistio — have filed Resolution 209 seeking the creation of the Caloocan City Police District (CCPD).
They argued that the creation of the CCPD is necessary considering the huge population and vast land area of Caloocan.
Resolution 209 has been approved at the committee level.
Caloocan has a population of 1,666,584 and a land area of 53.20 square kilometers occupied by 193 villages, making it the third-most populous city in the National Capital Region, next only to Quezon City and Manila.
“Despite its large population and extensive jurisdiction, the maintenance of peace and order in the city is presently handled only by a police station which is structurally and operationally inadequate to address the increasing demands of public safety, crime prevention and effective law enforcement,” Malapitan said.
“Converting and reorganizing the city police into a full-fledged police district under the direct command and control of the National Capital Region Police Office will enhance the delivery of police services, ensure more efficient coordination and resource management and strengthen crime prevention and patrol operations and other police functions,” he added.
The Caloocan police force is currently under the jurisdiction of the Northern Police District, which also has direct supervision over the police forces of Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela.
