CAMBODIAN Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul have given positive assurances and reaffirmed their commitment to a peaceful resolution after recent incidents along the Cambodia–Thailand border, Malaysia announced on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he spoke by telephone with both leaders to review the latest developments and the ongoing efforts to stabilise relations between the two neighbouring countries.
“I stressed Malaysia’s position in wanting to see friendship and the ceasefire between both countries strengthened in line with the understanding sealed in Kuala Lumpur at the end of last month. I also stated Malaysia’s readiness to continue playing the role of facilitator in paving this path to peace,” he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday night.
Anwar said both Hun Manet and Anutin expressed their appreciation for Malaysia’s stance and its role, not only as ASEAN Chair but also as a regional neighbour that seeks lasting peace.
“May both countries continue to demonstrate determination and courage to restore stability along the border for enduring peace in this region and for the safety of the people of both nations,” he said.
Hun Manet and Anutin signed the peace agreement on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit on 26 October, witnessed by Anwar and United States President Donald Trump.
Under the arrangement, Thailand and Cambodia agreed to end hostilities and strengthen good neighbourly relations. - November 14, 2025
