MORE than 100 high school and college students joined a campus journalism workshop at St. Clare College, where discussions centered on traditional reporting practices and the changes brought by digital media.
The fifth Usapang Plaridel Campus Journalism Workshop Series brought together students and newspaper journalists to discuss how news is gathered and shared in an environment shaped by computer technology, real-time feedback and greater audience interaction.
Nestor Cuartero and Ramon Bonilla of the Manila Bulletin, Joyce Panares of the Manila Standard and Bryan Ulanday of the Philippine Star shared their newsroom experiences during the session.
The program also covered the history of Philippine journalism, with Samahang Plaridel legal counsel Hector Villacorta of Market Monitor delivering a lecture on Marcelo H. del Pilar, known as the Father of Philippine Journalism.
Ed Andaya of People's Tonight, head of the Usapang Plaridel program, delivered the inspirational remarks.
Samahang Plaridel President Evelyn Quiroz presented certificates of recognition to St. Clare College Vice President Dr. Ernesto Jay Adalem and Dr. Adrian Angelo Roque, head of the school's Bachelor of Secondary Education department.
St. Clare College was the fifth school to host the workshop series. Previous sessions were held at E. Rodriguez Jr. High School, New Era, Jose P. Laurel High School and Emilio Aguinaldo College-Manila.
The workshop is part of Samahang Plaridel's program to promote journalism among students and uphold standards in the profession. Dan Madrazo
