MANILA, Philippines — Palace Press Office Undersecretary Claire Castro said her statement yesterday that teachers allegedly fail to uphold proper conduct was misinterpreted.
The statement comes after the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) condemned Castro’s statement, saying it is “reckless and insulting” to teachers.
In a press briefing on Wednesday, Castro said she was not blaming teachers but was only reminding them of their duties.
“We are not blaming anyone. I hope we put what I said into the proper context,” said Castro in Filipino.
“We will never blame teachers, but we are reminding them,” she added.
She further noted that her comment was based on an investigation, citing the recent trip to Davao City of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., where he was heckled by students.
