MANILA, Philippines — Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano criticized the Department of Justice for investigating the shooting incident in the Senate, saying agencies involved in the operation could not be expected to conduct an impartial probe.
Cayetano had maintained that the Senate was under attack last week and blamed the National Bureau of Investigation for the incident. The NBI is under the DOJ.
“That’s why my message to him is: you can’t be the hero if you’re the villain,” Cayetano said, referring to acting Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida.
He praised Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla for his “professional and impartial approach” in dealing with Senate officials during the incident.
