The UT Administration has recommended the fragmentation of industrial plots in the proposed amendments to the Chandigarh Master Plan-2031.

The Administration on Friday issued an addendum to the proposed amendments concerning the fragmentation of industrial plots in Industrial Area Phase-I and II as part of the ongoing deregulation exercise aimed at promoting optimum use of industrial land.

The addendum, approved by the Administrator, is to be read in continuation of the proposed amendments already notified on May 22.

It has been proposed to permit the fragmentation of larger industrial plots into smaller plots, subject to approval of revised planning and zoning, and compliance with other conditions prescribed under the applicable policy.

The policy governing such fragmentation shall be notified separately by the Chandigarh Administration.

Detailed information regarding the proposed amendments and the addendum is available on the official website of the Department of Urban Planning, Chandigarh Administration.

Submitting suggestions, Col (retd) Gursewak Singh, president of the Residents’ Welfare Association, Modern Housing Complex (MHC), Sector 13, suggested that with high density population, the area has the highest car density.

“In the absence of designated parking, vehicles are often parked on roads, pedestrian paths, or in front of neighbouring houses, leading to disputes and conflicts,” he said.
