Chandigarh Mayor Saurabh Joshi on Wednesday travelled to the Municipal Corporation (MC) office and other locations by e-rickshaw as part of a special Green Mobility Awareness Drive aimed at promoting eco-friendly modes of transportation across the city.
In a significant show of support for the initiative, senior officers, officials and employees of the Chandigarh MC also participated by commuting to their workplaces using public transport and bicycles. The campaign highlighted the Corporation’s commitment to reducing vehicular pollution, conserving fuel and encouraging sustainable urban mobility.
Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said Chandigarh has always been a model city for progressive and environmentally conscious initiatives. He emphasised that adopting clean transportation alternatives such as e-rickshaws and bicycles can play a vital role in reducing carbon emissions, improving air quality and creating a healthier urban environment for future generations.
“Every citizen can contribute to environmental protection through small but meaningful changes in daily habits. Choosing sustainable modes of transport not only benefits the environment but also promotes a healthier and more active lifestyle,” the Mayor said.
The initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation from the MC staff, who appreciated the effort and pledged to support environmentally responsible practices in their daily routines. The campaign also served as a message to residents about the importance of collective action in addressing climate and pollution-related challenges.
