Chandigarh Mayor Saurabh Joshi on Tuesday washed the feet of sanitation workers and applied ’tilak’ on their foreheads before launching a Ward-Wise Deep Cleaning Drive in Sector 15.
The campaign is set to cover both residential areas and markets.
Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor described sanitation workers as the city’s ‘real heroes’ who work tirelessly day and night to keep Chandigarh clean.
Joshi said the deep cleaning drive aims to provide residents with a cleaner, healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment. He said the campaign would comprehensively address sanitation, sweeping, horticulture maintenance, pruning, repairs of footpaths, road gullies, service lanes, railings and electrical infrastructure.
He went on to add that earlier only one department was engaged in the cleaning drive, but this is unique drive wherein workers from all departments will be engaged in cleaning.
