
Local sportspersons will finally get their achievements approved and graded on Monday enabling them to apply for quota in admissions in schools and colleges.
The UT Sports Department will clear gradation certificates of those who had appeared in the interviews conducted last month. These certificates can only be used to take admission under sports quota in local government and private institutions and are not meant for employment purposes.
“The file for issuing the certificates will be cleared by Monday, and the schedule for the second round of gradation interviews will be notified within 10 days,” confirmed a senior functionary of the Sports Department.
The UT Higher and School Education Department is yet to announce the Common Admission Schedule. Once the schedule is released, students can apply under reserved categories. To apply under sports quota, the gradation certificate is one of the most important documents.
As per the gradation policy of the UT Administration, the local meritorious sportspersons who bag laurels at state, national and international events are issued certificates for getting benefits in academics.
The achievements get graded as A, B, C and D. Excelling or representing the nation in affiliated international events is classified as Grade A, for Asian meets or winning medals in national and inter-state events and others Grade B, for participation in senior nationals/inter-university tournaments/federation cup or first three positions in the recognised Chandigarh state championships in seniors with minimum participation of seven teams and others Grade C and for participation in senior and junior national events or school games event Grade D.
The certificates are issued by the association concerned of various sporting disciplines, including archery, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, canoe/ kayaking, cricket, cycling, fencing, football, golf, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, kabaddi, kho kho, rowing, shooting, softball, skating, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, weightlifting and wrestling.
