Kota Kinabalu: A 42-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate’s Courts here with two counts of cheating two individuals in connection with the purchase of cars.
Sang Fazar Bunjing, who appeared separately before Magistrates Marilyn Kelvin and Dzul Elmy Yunus, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
On the charge before Marilyn, Sang was accused of cheating one Jimwryandell Jimmy Akau by inducing him to purchase a Proton Saga FLX, causing him to hand over RM12,300 in cash.
The offence allegedly took place at Kg Air here on March 20, 2021.
He was charged under Section 417 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to five years, or a fine, or both on conviction.
Marilyn fixed Sept 18 for pre-trial case management (PTCM), released Sang on RM4,000 bail in two sureties and ordered him to report to the investigating officer once every fortnight.
On the second charge, Sang was accused of cheating one Susanti Latif by inducing her to purchase a Proton Saga FLX, causing her to hand over RM12,500 in cash on Nov 22, 2021, at Kg Air, here.
The charge was also framed under Section 417 of the Penal Code.
Dzul Elmy fixed Sept 9 for PTCM, released Sang on RM4,000 bail in two sureties and ordered him to report to a police station once a month.
Earlier, in applying for the PTCM date, the prosecution initially proposed that bail not be granted, submitting that Sang had been recharged with similar offences in which he had previously failed to appear in court.
However, should the court grant bail, the prosecution proposed an amount between RM7,000 and RM10,000, with a reporting condition of once a month or once every two weeks.
Earlier, Sang, through duty counsel, appealed for lower bail, saying he was married with two children and ran a car rental business.
Inspectors Yusdi Basri and Mohamad Hamidi Mohamad Hamzah prosecuted.
