Democratic Action Party (DAP) vice-chairman Nga Kor Ming has strongly criticized the use of mocking caricatures targeting Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Transport Minister Anthony Loke by Perikatan Nasional (PN) supporters during the Ayer Kuning by-election nomination process.

Describing the caricatures as “immature” and “inappropriate,” Nga said such acts shift focus away from the genuine challenges faced by the nation. He urged politicians to uphold a higher standard of discourse and debate, emphasizing that personal attacks do not help in addressing Malaysia’s real issues.

“These actions aim to distract us from the real challenges we need to address together, such as the tariff war initiated by US President Donald Trump,” Nga stated.

The controversial posters were displayed in Tapah, Perak, where supporters from PN, Barisan Nasional (BN), and Parti Sosialis Malaysia gathered to back their respective candidates. One caricature portrayed Prime Minister Anwar with a distressed face, surrounded by phrases like “tax hikes,” “subsidy cuts,” “medical insurance price increase,” and “ringgit depreciation,” written in Malay, English, and Chinese.

Another caricature featured Transport Minister Loke making a “shushing” gesture — a move critics say attempts to silence public dissent.

Nga, expressing disappointment over the tactics, stressed that Malaysia’s political landscape should focus on meaningful debates centered on policy, development goals, and tangible solutions for the people — not mockery or personal ridicule.

“It is a cheap attempt to divert public attention from real and pressing issues. Political debates should be based on policies, development plans, and constructive proposals — not childish ridicule of individuals,” he said,

Nga’s remarks come amid growing concerns over the tone of political campaigning in Malaysia, He urged all political factions to rise above such antics and instead engage the public with plans that address inflation, economic stability, and national development.

Nga’s statement serves as a reminder for voters and politicians alike to stay focused on the bigger picture — Malaysia’s future.
