The fine dining restaurant Chakra along Jalan 11/4 in Petaling Jaya (Opposite University Hospital) attracts customers not because of its spicy, relishing and mouth-watering fusion cuisine – even more so because it is healthy.

Renamed from Ajnas to Chakra recently, the restaurant is popular for launching events, birthdays, anniversaries, marriage registration parties and special events at no rental cost. You can also go ahead and decorate the place for the event if you like. For special events, the food served is at discounted price for more than 10 guest bookings.

The Sanskrit word “Chakra” is based on using food to support good health.

Chakra’s owner S.Mahendran said the energy in our body is influenced by the food we eat. He says certain foods eaten resonate with the seven main chakras' energy points along the spine.

“The seven chakras are thought of as the main energy points in your body. Our menu is cooked based on nutritional food value which is healthy for eating.

“Chakra’s appetising spicy servings, North and South Indian and Malaysian styled fusion food are cooked to provide health benefits. Taking the right food can also help in curing any ailment. Carrot-based serving is helpful to improve your eyesight and yogurt is good for digestion and kills the bacteria in the stomach.

“For example, the famous Briyani with Chicken, mutton and vegetarian flavours are cooked to boost your immune system and satisfy the different palates of our customers.

“The food is tastefully prepared by cooks with a totalling 40 years of experience. It is 'good ole' home-cooked food with spicy fish, mutton and chicken curries. The fish, mutton, chicken and squid soup are served in a clay pot. There are also other spicy vegetarians using herbs.”

Opening from 11 am to 12 midnight, Chakra’s lunchtime is a treat as the diner can explore the diverse tastes and textures of fresh vegetables and various meat dishes.

“Our cooks artfully blend regional spices with international ingredients, offering various flavours that cater to every palate. From biryanis with a twist to innovative curries, each dish celebrates culinary creativity,” said Mahendran.

Some of the favourite dishes I enjoyed eating at Chakra are Briyani (mutton, chicken, fish, prawns) six types of Naan, Tandoori chicken, and other North Indian dishes.

Beverages such as Bru coffee and masala tea are something else. Chakra also serves alcoholic beverages.

Guests at a record launch showed their thumbs up when asked to comment about the food. Chakra’s food is mouth-watering, with its oriental-styled ambience is indeed inviting.

What’s nice about this place is that the waiters, cooks and management staff are friendly and clearly explain the dishes when you select a dish from the menu.
