TAWAU: A 10-ton lorry carrying a load of ammonium nitrate chemical was reported to have overturned on Jalan Nabawan-Kalabakan at 3pm on Sunday.

Tawau Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Jemishin Ujin, said that the incident resulted in a spill in the affected area.

He said the incident also involved two victims, but further information was not obtained as they had already been rushed to the hospital by members of the public before his team arrived.

“A total of eight officers and personnel along with two fire engines were dispatched to the location 138 kilometres away after receiving an emergency call at 3.05 pm through MERS999,” he said.

Read more Jemishin said that upon arrival at the location at 5.35 pm, his team cleaned up the chemical spill.

They ended the operation at 7.10 pm after ensuring there were no other hazards at the location.

The operation also involved the police (two personnel) and the Kalabakan Volunteer Fire Brigade with five personnel.
