Kota Kinabalu: Strong bilateral relations between China and Sabah across various economic sectors have maintained China’s position as Malaysia’s largest partner, particularly for Sabah.

The new Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu, Dr Zhu Xinglong, said Sabah’s strategic location and abundant natural resources play a crucial role in forming the high-level China-Malaysia strategic community.

“In recent years, relations between China and Sabah have achieved notable progress in various forms of cooperation, including trade, investment and tourism,” he told the media after paying a courtesy call on Head of State Tun Musa Aman at Istana Seri Kinabalu on Tuesday.

“From January to May this year alone, 200,000 tourists from China have visited Sabah,” he said.

The visit aimed to introduce himself as the new Chinese Consul General in Kota Kinabalu and to present his Letter of Appointment issued by China’s Foreign Minister to Musa.

He expressed hope that the more than 50 years of China-Malaysia bilateral cooperation and relations would continue to be strengthened over time.

Zhu replaces Dr Huang Shi Fang, who held the position from May 30, 2022, until the end of March this year.
