MANILA, Philippines - The Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said the biggest difference of locating fugitive businessman Charlie “Atong” Ang compared to other manhunts is because he has long been ready with an escape plan and his enormous resources make it happen.

“The difference [between the manhunt for Ang versus the others] is his money and extent of his influence. This is what makes locating him challenging,” CIDG-National Capital Region Director  Col. John Guiagui told reporters in a press briefing at Camp Crame.

“He has really prepared for this,” he said.

In fact when Guiagui entered one of Ang’s properties, a condominium unit in BGC in Taguig City, it was neat and empty giving authorities the assumption he prepared the place because he actually knew they were coming.

“I went inside the house. It was really clean, the BGC property. [It seems] He really had it opened. It has digital locks, so he really had it opened because he knew we were coming,” Guiagui said.

(Pinasok ko yung bahay talagang malinis na. Yung BGC property. Talagang pinabuksan niya lahat ng, lahat yon digital yung lock non, pinabuksan niya talaga. Alam niyang pupuntahan yung lugar niya.)

“Everything was clean from the vehicles to his  things. Only his shoes were the ones I saw there,” he said.

(Lahat ng ano malinis na, mula sasakyan, gamit, mga sapatos lang ang nakita ko doon.)

While acknowledging that the search may take long, Guiagui said authorities will not hold back in holding Ang to account.
