Kota Kinabalu: Cement supply in Sabah is expected to fully recover by mid-September following disruptions caused by maintenance works and delays in the arrival of raw materials, according to Cement Industries (Sabah) Sdn Bhd (CIS).
CIS General Manager Sumardi Mohd Yusuf (pic) said repair and maintenance works at the company’s Teluk Sepangar cement plant had contributed to the current supply disruption in the market.
He said delays involving vessels carrying clinker and bulk cement had also affected supply after unfavourable weather conditions at the supplier’s port delayed their arrival.
“The repair and maintenance works at the plant were successfully completed yesterday, Sept 4, and CIS is now working to increase production and cement supply to the market, with supply expected to fully recover by mid-September,” he said in a statement Saturday.
Sumardi said CIS was also increasing its procurement of clinker and bulk cement to meet high demand and ensure continuous supply to consumers and construction industry players in Sabah, while seeking the cooperation and understanding of all parties during the recovery period.
