Rainfall between 29.3mm and 84.8mm recorded in Perak after a targeted cloud seeding operation over two critical dam catchment areas.
PUTRAJAYA: A cloud seeding operation in Perak has been declared a success, with significant rainfall recorded in the catchment zones of two critical dams.
Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup said rain began falling around 3.30 pm in the target areas of Bukit Merah and Temenggor dams.
“This success shows that cloud seeding works effectively under the right atmospheric conditions,” he said in a statement.
He added that the rainfall successfully covered the main catchment areas for both dams.
The operation reflects the ministry’s commitment to addressing declining water levels due to dry weather.
It was conducted through the Malaysian Meteorological Department in close collaboration with the Royal Malaysian Air Force.
MetMalaysia said meteorological analysis detected highly active convective clouds over the target areas.
High atmospheric moisture and unstable conditions helped the clouds develop more efficiently after seeding.
The operation began at Bukit Merah Dam at 2.45 pm and at Temenggor Dam at 3.05 pm.
An RMAF C130-Hercules aircraft sprayed a salt solution into towering cumulus clouds at altitudes between 5,200 and 7,000 feet.
