MANILA, Philippines — The northeast monsoon, locally known as ‘amihan,’ which brings cold and dry winds, has been affecting Metro Manila and the rest of the archipelago, the national weather bureau said on Sunday.
Meanwhile, weather specialist Lean Loreto of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the low-pressure area (LPA), formerly Tropical Cyclone Ada, has been embedded along the shear line – the convergence of hot and cold air.
“It (LPA) was no longer directly affecting the weather in the country,” Loreto said.
She said the shear line has been affecting the eastern section of Mindanao, particularly Caraga, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos), Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, and Bukidnon.
“Cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms would prevail over these areas within the next 24 hours,” the Pagasa forecaster said.
Aside from the National Capital Region, the state-run weather agency said amihan would also be experienced over Cagayan Valley, Bicol Region, the rest of Visayas, the rest of Northern Mindanao, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Aurora, and Quezon, where overcast skies with light rains would be likely.
