Congress leaders paid tributes to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his death anniversary in Shimla on Wednesday. State Congress vice-president Amit Nanda said that Nehru had made a significant contribution to India’s freedom struggle. “As India’s first Prime Minister, Nehru had laid the foundation of modern India, resulting in the country being recognised as a global superpower. Nehru did remarkable work towards making the country self-reliant,” he claimed.
State Women’s Congress president Zainab Chandel said that Nehru’s vision proved to be a milestone in modern India’s journey to self-reliance. “The country can never forget Nehru’s contributions to the country’s independence and its reconstruction. We must follow his path and work together to strengthen the Congress. This will be our true tribute to him,” she added.
State Congress president Vinay Kumar said that the country would always remain indebted to Nehru. He added that Nehru had promoted science, technology and industry in the country. Major institutions such as the Bhakra Nangal Dam, IITs, IIMs and AIIMS were established during his tenure. “Internationally, Nehru had decided not to align with any superpower during the Cold War and laid the foundation for the Non-Aligned Movement,” he asserted.
Vinay Kumar said that Nehru was a visionary leader, socialist thinker and a great personality who had laid a strong foundation of modern democratic India.
