Tension gripped Mudki on the last day for filing nomination papers for the Nagar Panchayat elections. Reports indicate a clash occurred between Congress leaders and members of other parties, including an independent candidate. The altercation resulted in injuries to Ashu Bangar, the Congress Halqa In-charge, and a woman candidate.

As per information, Bangar had reached Mudki Nagar Panchayat office along with Congress candidates to file nomination papers, when an argument escalated into a clash, among supporters of different candidates. Bangar alleged that he was attacked with sharp edged weapons during the scuffle.

Following the incident, Congress supporters blocked the Ferozepur-Moga National Highway and raised slogans against the state government and police administration, demanding strict action against those responsible for the violence.

Bangar said he would refuse medical treatment until action was taken against those involved.

The protestors kept the highway blocked, demanding registration of a case and an immediate arrest of the accused. Later, SP Detective Manjeet Singh, DSP Rural Karan Sharma and other senior police officials reached the spot and assured the protestors regarding appropriate action.

District Congress President and former MLA Kulbir Singh Zira, who also joined the protest, said that the attack on party leaders would not be tolerated. He alleged that anti-social elements were openly intimidating people, while the police remained a mute spectator, despite being aware of the situation.

Zira said the protest would continue until the accused were booked and arrested. He further said that the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, had also been informed about the incident and that he would also join the dharna.

Warring demands action against police officials for failing to prevent attack against Congress candidates

Warring demanded action against police officials for allegedly failing to prevent the attack on the Congress Halqa In-charge and a woman candidate.

Disclosing this, Warring said Bangar was accompanying the candidates to file nominations for the municipal elections when they were allegedly intimidated by some gangsters and later attacked without any provocation. He said the woman candidate suffered fractures in her legs, while Bangar also sustained injuries.

Warring demanded that an FIR be registered against the accused under stringent provisions of law.
