Kota Kinabalu: VC Prof Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor said the State Government’s RM2 million donation is meaningful for high-impact research, especially on solutions to local issues.

“I voiced out that UMS will continue to intensify research activities, including conducting studies to drive the agricultural, industrial and tourism sectors in addition to producing competitive human capital for the well-being of the people.

“I did not expect (the donation) and felt moved when the Chief Minister announced the considerable amount to support this effort.

“On behalf of UMS, I express my deepest gratitude for the State Government, especially Hajiji,” he said, Friday.

According to Kasim, UMS would fully support the Sabah Maju Jaya Development Plan (SMJ) which is the core and direction of the State Government’s administration.

“UMS is always ready to provide expertise and insight to jointly make the SMJ plan a success, which is very significant in improving the development and living standards of the people in Sabah.

“I will ensure that the good relationship between UMS and the State Government will continue, covering various aspects of cooperation towards a more advanced, peaceful and prosperous Sabah,” said Kasim, a Sabah native who since Oct. 3 was made UMS’ seventh Vice Chancellor.
