JOHOR BAHRU - Police have confirmed a shooting incident involving police personnel near Johor Zoo on Jalan Gertak Merah here on Thursday.
Johor Police Chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said a member of the public was injured in the incident.
"I can confirm that there was a shooting involving police personnel and a member of the public was injured. I will hold a press conference tomorrow at 11 am,” he said briefly when contacted by Bernama last night.
A Bernama check at the scene found that the road leading to Johor Zoo had also been closed, while the surrounding area was under tight police control.
Further details of the incident, including the cause and the condition of the victim, are expected to be announced at a press conference at the Johor Police Contingent Headquarters here.
He said the press conference would also provide the latest developments in the investigation into the death of Form Four student Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal, 16, in Yong Peng, Batu Pahat.
On Oct 3, Irene Sofiya was found unconscious and covered in blood at a school hall in Yong Peng before she was pronounced dead.
Following the incident, a 16-year-old male teenager was remanded for six days to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code. - BERNAMA
