Recently, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) launched an investigation after a video went viral showing a group of foreigners waving Chinese flags during a celebration outside the Leaning Tower in Teluk Intan, Perak.

In response to the event, around 400 people, including members from various non-governmental organisations and PAS, gathered in front of the Leaning Tower to wave Jalur Gemilang flags.

“The incident is being exploited for political gain”

DAP politician Syerleena Rashid took to TikTok to share her thoughts on the recent incident, calling out PAS for turning the Teluk Intan Chinese flag event into a racial issue.

In the video, Syerleena voiced her frustration, stating that a straightforward act like someone raising the Chinese flag should be dealt with legally rather than being turned into a racial issue.

“How can PAS expect non-Muslims to support them if they keep fueling racial tensions? The Chinese flag is being shamelessly exploited for political gain!”

“Don’t you dare twist my words”

Syerleena went on to clarify that she’s not on board with waving foreign flags in Malaysia and stressed that everyone should prioritise the Jalur Gemilang instead.

She called out PAS Perak Commissioner Razman Zakaria’s comments as outrageous, saying they were just fueling racial tensions.

“Don’t you dare twist my words and make it seem like I support the Chinese flag incident? At the gathering by the Leaning Tower in Teluk Intan, Razman even brought up a movie about resisting the British. What does raising the Chinese flag have to do with fighting against British colonialism?”

“Stop playing these dirty games”

Syerleena also highlighted how Razman had the nerve to ask why some people are willing to work with non-Malays, to which she replied,

“What about the Malays working for Chinese employers? Does that make them traitors, too? And then, out of nowhere, he brings up the UEC issue.”

She added that Razman’s call for unity among people who look like him and share his skin colour and background is a dangerous move. She believes that kind of rhetoric is divisive and brings to mind the darkest chapters of history.

“Stop with these dirty games. Malaysians are fed up with it. To all my fellow Malaysians, whether you’re Malay or non-Malay, let’s come together to protect the harmony and unity of our country,” she concluded.
