DA, Pagasa to build Bukidnon weather station

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) said Wednesday that its regional field office in Northern Mindanao would be partnering with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) to build a weather station in Bukidnon.

This facility is expected to boost weather monitoring, promote climate-resilient agriculture and help farmers in the region.

"The localized climatic information will help farmers improve crop planning, irrigation scheduling, and pest and disease management, while supporting LGUs (local government units) in disaster preparedness and researchers in climate studies," the DA said in a statement.

Pagasa's weather services chief for Mindanao, Anianita Fortich, said the memorandum of agreement with the DA "represents our partnership and shared responsibility to better serve the Filipino people."

The weather station would be located at the DA-10 Northern Mindanao Agricultural Crops and Livestock Research Complex in Dalwangan, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.

It will operate on a 24-hour basis and conduct observations covering key parameters such as air temperature, rainfall, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, atmospheric pressure, solar radiation and soil conditions.
