Dana White has stepped in to clarify Islam Makhachev’s next fight date, directly contradicting recent claims from the champion’s own camp.

The UFC president addressed speculation that the welterweight titleholder would return earlier than expected.

It comes amid uncertainty surrounding Makhachev’s hand injury recovery and recent inactivity.

The situation has now created conflicting narratives about one of the sport’s biggest stars.

White publicly dismissed suggestions that Makhachev would fight in July.

“Not true… It’s August”, he wrote in an Instagram comment responding to reports about the two-weight champion’s return.

The timeline contradicts comments made by Ali Abdelaziz in a recent interview with TMZ Sports.

The manager said there is a done deal for the Dagestani star to fight the “number one contender”, and hinted at July as the month that would happen.

Makhachev is reportedly recovering from a hand injury. White previously referenced that issue when explaining his absence from UFC Freedom 250 at the White House.

Reports suggested that injury derailed a potential fight with Ilia Topuria. Abdelaziz, however, denied that.

Concerns grow over Islam Makhachev’s activity in 2026

The revised timeline raises questions about Makhachev’s activity this year.

After fighting twice in 2025, a first appearance in August would significantly delay his 2026 campaign.

That scenario could leave limited time for a second fight before year’s end.

In that context, the welterweight division remains one of the promotion’s most competitive weight classes.

Ian Machado Garry, Carlos Prates and Michael Morales are all pushing for opportunities, and any prolonged absence from Makhachev could stall momentum.
