- Danny Murphy gave a fresh update on Bob the Cat while carrying out his BBC commentary duties for Spain vs Portugal on Monday evening.
- Murphy’s story went viral when he revealed earlier in the tournament that he had a pet cat called Bob in his younger years, only for the cat to jump into the back of a Royal Mail van before being driven away.
- In a later commentary stint, he subsequently confirmed that the cat returned several weeks later, but stated that the cat had gone “feral” and could not be reintegrated into the family home so he was sent to live with Murphy’s cousins’ parents in Preston.
- On Monday, Murphy’s co-commentator Steve Bower revealed there had been some “complaints” over Murphy’s decision to give away his cat, leading to Murphy defending his actions.
- Murphy insisted that his family tried to reintegrate Bob but he “started fighting his sister, Mary”, leading to the decision to “give him the red card and send him up the road to Preston”, which Murphy claimed was the “right decision”.
