Dave Portnoy isn’t thrilled with the Boston Celtics’ decision to trade Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George.
The NBA world was shocked to see former Finals MVP Brown get traded to the Celtics’ divisional rivals in Philadelphia for a 36-year-old George and a few draft picks.

Portnoy shared his reaction to his personal social media channels, speaking frankly about Brown having a quirky personality while respecting his contributions by recognizing the MVP-caliber season he just had.
“I knew the trade was coming. Jaylen Brown is an interesting cat. He’s on Twitch saying he had the best season of his life… I don’t hate the guy. Finals MVP, great player, always works hard.”
“I’m not crying that we traded him, but getting back from the 76ers, what’s his face, Paul George? My d— did not get hard for Paul George.”
Portnoy also expressed faith in Celtics GM Brad Stevens for seeing a bigger picture that he can’t see right now, as the Celtics right now resemble a No. 8 seed that’s far away from contending to him.
Celtics’ current roster doesn’t look better than Brown’s 76ers
The 76ers overcame a 3-1 series deficit to eliminate the Celtics in the first round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs, likely prompting their decision to move on from Brown.
The Celtics sending Brown as a younger and more productive player to the 76ers for a past-his-prime George doesn’t improve the roster at face value.
The Celtics will bet that an increased role for guards Payton Pritchard and Derrick White can replace Brown’s production from last season, including the return of a fully-recovered Jayson Tatum.
The 76ers boost their lacking top-end production outside Tyrese Maxey with Brown, who averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists last season.
Adding him to a roster with second-year V.J. Edgecombe and Joel Embiid should be a recipe for success, especially if Embiid can stay healthy.
