Illegal “photo tout” activities continue to persist in popular tourist areas despite ongoing enforcement efforts by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

In a recent operation conducted around the Petronas Twin Towers (KLCC), Jalan Ampang, and Jalan P. Ramlee, authorities seized photographic equipment from three individuals found operating without permits.

According to a Facebook post by DBKL, enforcement officers took action against the individuals for providing unauthorised photography services in public spaces. Inspections revealed that some of those involved were foreign nationals, while one was a local citizen.

In addition to the crackdown on illegal photographers, DBKL issued six traffic compound notices under the Road Transport Act 1987 to vehicle owners found to have violated traffic regulations in the area.

The city authority stressed that enforcement actions would continue to be intensified without compromise.

“Any unlicensed activities, legal violations, or actions that tarnish the image of the city will face strict enforcement in accordance with existing laws,” DBKL said in a statement, urging the public to comply with regulations and cooperate with authorities.

Earlier, Dang Wangi District Police Chief Sazalee Adam reported that 25 photo touts were arrested in a separate operation around KLCC earlier in the week.

The arrests involved 23 local men, one local woman, and one Filipino man aged between 16 and 48. All individuals were remanded for three days to assist investigations, including identity verification by the National Registration Department.

Authorities said they will continue to closely monitor the situation as part of broader efforts to maintain order and protect the reputation of Kuala Lumpur’s key tourist destinations.

Previously, DBKL bolstered security in the area by installing new CCTV cameras at the intersection of Jalan Ampang and Jalan P. Ramlee.
