SEREMBAN: A 74-year-old man was killed after the Perodua Myvi he was driving was swept away by floodwaters while travelling along a road near a drain beside Sungai Kampung Kundur Hulu in Rembau last night.

Rembau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) senior operations commander Mohamad Khairul Yahaya said the station received an emergency call from the victim’s son at 9.20pm.

“The rescue team, with assistance from the Water Rescue Team (PPDA) from the Teluk Kemang BBP, managed to extricate the victim, who was trapped inside the car, about half an hour later.

“The victim, a retired civil servant, was confirmed dead by Ministry of Health medical officers, and his remains were taken to Rembau Hospital,” he told Bernama.

He said the rescue operation, which involved 13 personnel, including two senior officers from the Rembau and Teluk Kemang fire and rescue stations, ended at 10pm.

In a separate incident, Mohamad Khairul said his team rescued a 38-year-old Indonesian man who was trapped among trees after being swept away by strong currents during a flash flood at Jalan Pedas-Linggi, Kampung Kundur Tengah, Pedas.

He said rescuers used a human-chain technique to bring the victim to the riverbank at 8.40pm.
