What you did with the order for all civil servants to stop using Waze but to use Tuju, an application built locally is akin to what PM4 did when he launched Proton and impose punitive taxes on imported cars.

You are following in the footsteps of PM4 in using the power of the government to shield or shift demand away from established foreign players (Waze / foreign automakers) toward a locally built alternative (TuJu / Proton).

In Proton’s case, the government heavily incentivized public sector workers and departments to buy Protons in the 1980s and 1990s, the current directive mandates that the civil service serve as the primary captive user base for TuJu to anchor its initial infrastructure.

When Proton launched, consumers complained about build quality compared to Japanese imports.

Similarly, early adopters of TuJu have raised complaints regarding its features, bugs, and data accuracy when compared to the highly refined, crowd-sourced engine of Waze.

The launch of Proton was an industrial policy aimed at transforming Malaysia into a heavy manufacturing economy and fostering domestic engineering capabilities.

You framed your directive to restrict Waze as a national security and digital sovereignty measure based on concerns from the National Cyber Security Committee (JKSN) regarding the exposure of civil servants' movement data to Waze Mobile Ltd., which operates under Israeli law.

The Proton era relied on punitive tariffs that made imported cars artificially expensive for everyone, thereby steering the entire consumer market.

The Waze policy is an outright administrative ban targeted explicitly at civil servants on official duty.

It does not impose financial penalties or blocks on the general public, though citizens are encouraged to switch voluntarily

If you insist on civil servants to stop using Waze, you should also stop them from using Google.

Waze collects and stores extensive movement and driving history on global cloud servers operated by its parent company, Google.

Waze data is stored on Google cloud and hosting infrastructure, primarily in the United States and the European Union, rather than locally on your phone or in Israel.

Israel misusing data on civil servants?

Who are you kidding?

The allegation that israel is misusing data on waze is like America and european countries alleging that Huawei telecom equipments are spying for China.

While Malaysia has consistently ranked among the top tier of nations globally for its legal, technical, and organizational cybersecurity frameworks, the country is known as a high-value target.

The reasons are obvious and widely publicised.

Sophisticated phishing and social engineering campaigns remain highly effective at bypassing technical defenses by targeting individuals rather than systems.
