The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with four agencies to launch pilot projects using drone-based geospatial technologies to strengthen property tax administration and improve urban governance.

Under the initiative, the agencies will deploy advanced tools, such as drone aerial surveys, LiDAR mapping, Digital Twin technology, 3D city modelling, GIS-based asset mapping and data analytics. The project aims to identify unassessed and under-assessed properties, improve tax compliance and create a more accurate database of civic assets.

MCD officials said the pilot projects would be carried out at no cost to the corporation, with the participating agencies undertaking surveys and technology demonstrations using their own resources.

Beyond property tax assessment, the initiative is expected to support urban planning and municipal service delivery by generating detailed geospatial data. It will also allow the civic body to evaluate the effectiveness of different technologies before considering any large-scale rollout.

According to the MCD, successful implementation of the pilot projects could pave the way for city-wide expansion across Delhi. Such an exercise would help create a comprehensive and continuously updated digital inventory of properties and civic infrastructure, improving transparency, planning and citizen-centric governance.

The civic body said the move reflects its commitment to adopting innovative technologies to modernise municipal administration and enhance public services in the national capital.
