KUALA LUMPUR – A Pakatan Harapan (PH) MP has sought clarification on the status of Perikatan Nasional (PN) representatives in the Dewan Rakyat following the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) decision to deregister the coalition.
Hulu Langat MP Mohd Sany Hamzan asked Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul to clarify the position of PN MPs following the development.
He said he raised the matter after reading the RoS statement announcing the cancellation of PN’s registration.
“So we would like to seek guidance from Tan Sri Speaker.
“What is their status now?” he said during the Dewan Rakyat sitting on Tuesday.
Earlier, the RoS was reported to have deregistered PN after finding that the coalition’s explanations and representations failed to refute the grounds for deregistration stated in an earlier notice.
The RoS said the decision was made under subparagraph 13(1)(c)(iv) of the Societies Act 1966 (Act 832), following a review of all documents and representations submitted by PN on Oct 12.
The earlier notice, dated Sept 22, was issued under subsection 13(2) of the same Act to give PN an opportunity to explain and make representations on the issues raised.
Johari, however, asked Mohd Sany to raise any matters concerning the Standing Orders after the Minister’s Question Time session.
“If Yang Berhormat has anything regarding the Standing Orders, please rise after the Minister’s Question Time session.
“Please be seated for now, Yang Berhormat,” he said.
