KUALA KANGSAR - A disabled housewife was found dead with injuries believed to have been caused by stabbing at her home in Kampung Cheh Hilir, Kati, here on Wednesday.
The victim, Nor Ainon Omar, 49, was found lying in a pool of blood at the village house where she lived with her husband and three children.
Kampung Cheh Hilir Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) chairman Nur Halim Abdul Hamid said he received information about the incident before rushing to the victim's house at about 2pm.
He said upon arriving at the scene, the victim was already unconscious and motionless, with injuries and bleeding on her calf.
“I was informed that the victim's husband had sought help from a resident who worked as a rubber tapper in a nearby area, before the individual contacted me.
“I then went to the house and found the victim unconscious. Her husband told me that his wife had managed to say that her leg had been pierced by a sharp object from underneath the house through a gap between the floorboards,” he told reporters on Wednesday.
Nur Halim said the victim's husband was home at the time and claimed he was cooking when he heard his wife calling for help.
He said one of the victim's three children was not at home at the time, prompting villagers to help search for the teenager before finding the 15-year-old in an oil palm plantation near a school.
“Residents persuaded the victim's child to return home before taking the teenager to see the mother. Police who arrived later also conducted checks and questioning.
“Police also found a knife in the oil palm plantation after the victim's child showed them the location,” he said.
According to Nur Halim, the victim and her family had been living in the house for a long time, with the property belonging to her husband's family.
He said the victim, her husband and all three children also received assistance from the Social Welfare Department (JKM), while the three children had different categories of disabilities.
Meanwhile, the victim's sister-in-law, Suliana Jalaluddin, 37, said she learned about the incident at about 2.16pm after receiving a message from her brother, who is the victim's husband, in the family WhatsApp group.
“The late victim, her husband and their three children were very close. The victim was a person with a disability, as were all three of their children.
“The eldest child, aged 17, has a physical disability due to a burn injury sustained previously, while the other two children, including the one linked to this incident, have learning disabilities,” she said.
The victim's remains were later taken to Taiping Hospital for a post-mortem.
Meanwhile, Kuala Kangsar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Heisham Harun, when contacted by the media, said further information on the incident would be released after investigations had been conducted.
