Divine Adili's wake starts June 13 in Ateneo

MANILA, Philippines — The Ateneo de Manila University announced on Friday that Divine Adili's wake starts on Saturday, June 13 at the Immaculate Conception Chapel inside the Loyola Campus in Katipunan, Quezon City.

Adili, alongside Blue Eagles basketball teammate Rene Baterbonia, drowned during a team-building activity in Aurora last Sunday.

"Divine Adili’s journey brought him far from home, but along the way he found teammates, classmates, coaches, and friends who came to know and love him," wrote Ateneo in a Facebook post.

"He made a lasting impact through the warmth of his presence, the friendships he formed, and the joy he brought to the communities he became part of.

"We remember Divine with affection and gratitude, and grieve with all those who loved him — in the Philippines, in Nigeria, and beyond.

"The Ateneo community is invited to join the Candle Light Service for Divine Adili, a Nigerian tradition similar to a wake, as we gather in prayer and remembrance."

The casket viewing is set from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with a mass taking place at 6 p.m.
