Donald Trump avoids another infamous Minions moment at White House Halloween event following last rally before midterms

President Donald Trump has made it through another Halloween event at the White House — this time without going viral for putting candy on the head of a child dressed as a short yellow henchman from the Minions movie franchise -- or anything else too silly.

During his first term in 2019, a child, dressed in an inflatable Minions costume, went up to Trump and First Lady Melania for some sweets, but instead of putting the candy bar in the child’s bag, he plopped it on their head. Trump did the same thing last Halloween, placing a candy bar on top of a child’s light-up mask.

This year’s event was fairly tame. The Trumps handed out candy, this time putting it in children’s bags in an event that lasted about an hour. Members of Trump’s administration, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, joined in on the fun with their families Thursday evening.

While there were no notable Minions costumes greeting the Trumps at the White House, which was decked out with pumpkins and fall leaves, there were a few Trick-or-Treaters dressed up as the henchmen’s favorite treat — a banana.

There were also kids dressed up as Barbie, racecar drivers, Toy Story characters, dinosaurs and animals from Winnie the Pooh.

But Trump was most impressed with costumes close to his interests, such as himself.

One older kid took a photo with Trump and Melania dressed in a “Make America Great Again” red hat, a white long-sleeve shirt with the number 47 — for the 47th president — on it and red flannel pajama pants with the phrase “MAGA for life.”

Other kids dressed as soldiers, police officers, Secret Service members, Uncle Sam and Rosie the Riveter. There were also a few little ones dressed as the Founding Fathers with white wigs and colonel-style clothing.

To complete the spooky vibe, the Air Force Strolling Strings played Halloween music from the Ghostbusters theme song to the Rocky Horror Picture Show’s iconic song, Time Warp.

Earlier Thursday, Trump was in South Carolina campaigning for Republican Senator Darline Graham, who is running for a full term after being appointed to finish out her brother Lindsey Graham’s term after his sudden death in July.

Trump ranted about Graham’s Democratic opponent Annie Andrews, with whom she’s in a surprisingly tight race, and he raved about the attractiveness of college golf players whom he invited on stage.

But the president decided not to insult Barack Obama amid a feud over the former president’s jab comparing the White House to a Cheesecake Factory restaurant.

Obama had joked that Trump’s renovations left the White House “looking like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory” at a recent rally in Ohio. This angered Trump’s base, which accused Obama of “elitism,” but the Democrat laughed off the uproar, saying the Cheesecake Factory was actually his “jam.”

While Trump may have been busy Thursday, he just cleared out his weekend rally schedule. The president was supposed to travel to Kansas on Saturday and Iowa on Sunday, but he canceled both visits, according to reports.
