Jrg Schmadtke is on the brink of being named Liverpool sporting director.

A free agent after leaving VfL Wolfsburg in February, Schmadtke is in advanced talks with Liverpool and due to soon be confirmed by the Reds.

The 59 year-old, a former goalkeeper and coach, has been in the offices of clubs such as Aachen (2001-09), Hannover 96 (2009-13), Cologne (2013-2018) and Wolfsburg (2018-2023).

After the departures of Michael Edwards and Julian Ward, Liverpool will try to find stability again with Schmadtke.

The German will form a team with Dave Fallows, Head of Recruitment, and Barry Hunter, Chief Scout, and between them they will seek to rebuild Jurgen Klopp's team, with an emphasis on the midfield.

It's been suggested the motivation behind Schmadtke's departure from VfL was due to talks kicking off with Liverpool.
