SEMPORNA: A double-decker bus was destroyed in a fire along Jalan Semporna–Kunak here on Monday.
It was learnt that the bus was heading to Kota Kinabalu for repair work without any passengers onboard.
Semporna Fire and Rescue Station Chief Rastam Keladi said the department received a distress call at 10.49pm regarding the incident.
He said a team of eight firefighters was deployed to the scene, about 20km from the station, using two fire engines.
“Upon arrival, the commander reported that a double-decker Scania K420 bus was already 100 per cent burnt,” he said.
Firefighters used a 200-foot hose with two water jets to extinguish the blaze and brought it under control at 11.28pm.
“The operation ended at 11.52pm after the team ensured the area was safe,” he added.
