Kota Kinabalu: The State Government has once again welcomed the MV “Doulos Hope” to its shores, recognising the ship’s global mission of sharing knowledge, promoting literacy, and uniting people through education and cultural exchange.
“We are delighted to host you again since your last visit two years ago. Each time the “Doulos Hope” comes to our shores, it brings a certain excitement, and this occasion is no different,” said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
“To countless people around the world, wherever the “Doulos Hope” docks, the ship symbolises our shared commitment to spreading knowledge and nurturing hope,” he added.
His speech was delivered by Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew during the official opening reception on board the “Doulos Hope” at the South Jetty of Kota Kinabalu Port on Friday.
Hajiji expressed appreciation for the ship’s efforts in promoting literacy, cultural exchange, and community engagement, especially in making reading accessible to all.
“Your collection of books, spanning various cultures and languages, has greatly enhanced cultural understanding and fostered exchange among visitors,” he said.
He also highlighted the significance of the ship’s international crew, over 100 volunteers from more than 30 countries, as a strong example of unity in diversity.
The Chief Minister encouraged the crew, led by Director Nidhin Sebastian and Captain Graeme Bird, to explore Sabah’s unique attractions and experience the warmth and diversity of its people.
“I wish the ‘Doulos Hope’ a fruitful visit to Kota Kinabalu and a safe journey to your subsequent destinations,” he said.
The ship will be docked in Kota Kinabalu for three weeks.
