PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has questioned the timing of the coalition’s deregistration, alleging that the move was politically motivated and driven by concerns over its electoral strength ahead of the Melaka state election.
Describing the decision as extraordinary, Samsuri said the sequence of events leading to the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) announcement raised serious questions, particularly with court proceedings concerning PN’s suspension scheduled for Thursday.
“What happened before the case was brought before the court was extraordinary. Truly extraordinary, perhaps even unnatural,” the Terengganu Menteri Besar said in a Facebook post today.
Samsuri also pointed to a recent letter from the Election Commission (EC) seeking PN’s response on the use of its logo, claiming that the timing of these developments suggested an attempt to undermine the coalition ahead of the polls.
He further alleged that certain political figures had sought to secure PN’s deregistration as a condition for aligning themselves with the coalition’s political opponents.
“Remember, the people’s wave will not be easily extinguished by the actions of politicians hiding behind power.
“Much less by any political individual who makes ‘securing this ban’ a key performance indicator (KPI) for joining those we are facing in the election,” he said.
Samsuri did not identify the individuals he was referring to or provide evidence to substantiate the allegation.
