SHAH ALAM – Pas Youth has questioned whether certain parties exerted political pressure on the Registrar of Societies (RoS), leading to the decision to deregister Perikatan Nasional (PN) today.

Pas Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden said that if political pressure had influenced the decision, it would not only tarnish the RoS’s image but also undermine public confidence in the country’s legal system.

He said the public was capable of judging the situation for themselves.

“Pas Youth Malaysia condemns the actions of certain parties believed to be attempting to exert political pressure over this matter.

“Do not let the eagerness to weaken PN lead to the sacrifice of the principles of justice and the rule of law.

“This country has laws, so respect the court process. Do not turn the law of the jungle into a practice,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Afnan also questioned why the RoS had made the decision before the court was due to hear PN’s application to suspend it.

“What is puzzling is that this case was supposed to be brought before the court on Oct 22, 2026, so why was the RoS in such a hurry to make a decision?

“On Oct 22, the court is scheduled to hear PN’s application to stay the RoS decision pending the outcome of the judicial review.

“Why not simply wait for the court process? What is so urgent that the decision had to be made earlier?” he said.

The RoS had earlier announced PN’s deregistration after finding that the coalition’s explanations and representations failed to refute the grounds for deregistration stated in an earlier notice.

In a statement, the department said the decision followed a review of all documents and explanations submitted by PN in response to a notice dated Sept 22, 2026.

It said it received PN’s response on Oct 12 but found that the reasons provided did not refute the grounds for deregistration.
