
TAWAU: A Toyota Vios driver died pinned to the vehicle after it collided with a Toyota Prado at the traffic light near Fujimart along Jalan Kuhara, here, early Friday.
Tawau Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the 1.40am incident involved the 33-year-old deceased and a 19-year-old Prado driver.
He said the Prado was heading from Taman Semarak towards town, while the Vios was heading from Fujimart towards Taman May Flower nearby.
“The two vehicles collided in the middle of the traffic light, causing the Prado to skid and crash into a pole about 105 metres in the opposite lane.

Jasmin said the deceased was extricated from the vehicle with the help of the firemen and was confirmed dead at the scene, while the Prado driver escaped unhurt.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.
Tawau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief Jemishin Ujin said they used a special equipment to remove the pinned victim.
He said a team of nine officers and members were deployed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 2.01am through MERS999.
The operation ended at 2.26am after making sure no other dangers was found at the scene.
