A MOTORIST narrowly escaped death when his vehicle plunged into a ravine following a landslide on the Gua Musang-Lojing road early on Wednesday, while another driver was killed in a separate road accident in Sungai Petani the previous night.

The Gua Musang incident occurred at kilometre 45 near Pos Blau at around 5am, when the driver reportedly ignored a road closure that had been in place since midnight. His vehicle fell into a landslide ravine as he travelled from Cameron Highlands, Pahang, towards Pasir Putih, Gua Musang.

The accident was discovered by a worker from Roadcare (M) Sdn Bhd, who heard cries for help while monitoring the area.

The victim was rescued by firefighters and taken to Klinik Kesihatan Pos Brooke for initial treatment. Superintendent Sik Choon Foo, Gua Musang District Police Chief, confirmed the incident.

In Sungai Petani, a man died after his Toyota Vios lost control and plunged into a river on Jalan Pengkalan shortly before midnight. The driver, from Trong, Perak, was found trapped inside the submerged vehicle, while his passenger managed to escape.

Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan, Kuala Muda District Police Chief, said the car, travelling from Riverfront Sungai Petani to Taman Intan, collided with a bridge railing before plunging into the river.

"The front passenger, a 30-year-old cook, managed to get out and save himself, while the driver went down with the car," he said.

The driver’s body was recovered by firefighters and declared dead at the scene by Ministry of Health personnel. It was subsequently sent to the forensic unit of Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim for further investigation. - December 3, 2025
